Following the protest by aggrieved staff of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olajide Adediran aka Jandor, promised to improve the welfare of the civil service force of the state when he becomes the governor.

Reports had it that Jandor made the promise, on Wednesday, when he faulted the state government over the protest of aggrieved LIRS storming the state’s House of Assembly in Alausa, Ikeja on Monday to air their grievances.

The LIRS staff were reported to have complained about staff maltreatment, lack of promotion, incentives and gratuity, among others.

On that backdrop, Jandor in a statement signed by the Head of Media and Communication, Jandor4Governor campaign organisation, Gbenga Ogunleye, said he would improve civil service for workers to enjoy the dividends of their commitment when elected in 2023.

According to him, in as much as the government of the All Progressives Congress is proud of its much-touted achievements in the area of IGR, it should also consider the welfare of the staff driving the performance.

Jandor criticised the government for ill-treatment of the LIRS staff and its refusal to promote them when due, noting that the gap was an avenue to breed corruption in the agency.

He, therefore, condemned the state government saying;

The inhuman treatment of the staff calls for concern, especially with the ignition that the staff of the revenue agency is the goose that is laying the golden eggs of the increasing Internally Generated Revenue of the state.

Jandor reacted that in as much as the government of the All Progressives Congress is proud of its much-touted achievements in the area of IGR, considerable efforts should also be put into ensuring that the staff in the agency that oversees the IGR drive are well motivated.

The treatment of the staff in the LIRS with contempt by refusing to promote them when due and the inability to specifically design emoluments that encourage their commitment to improve revenue collection management is a ploy to breed corruption in the agency.
