Brazil football icon, Pele has congratulated Argentine footballer, Lionel Messi after he won the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament with the Argentinian national team on Sunday, December 18.
Lionel Messi who bagged seven goals in the tournament scored twice in the 3-3 thriller before leading his side to a 4-2 win on penalties to win the much coveted world cup title.
Reacting Argentina’s recent success, Pele stated that Lionel Messi “deserved” to win the world cup title.

“Today, football continues to tell its story, as always, in an enthralling way. Messi winning his first World Cup, as his trajectory deserved,” Pele, a three-time World Cup champion, wrote on Instagram.
Pele also hailed French striker, Kylian Mbappe, who scored a hat-trick in the final which had ended 3-3 after extra-time before coolly slotting in a penalty in the shootout.

“My dear friend, Mbappe, scoring four goals in a final. What a gift it was to watch this spectacle to the future of our sport,” he wrote.
