Sowore Blasts Nigeria Police Force Over Killing Of Raheem

Bolanle Raheem, a 41-year-old lawyer who was killed, would have a street in the area named after him, according to John Campos, the chairman of Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area.

Campos disclosed this to the lawyer’s family on Wednesday during a visit.

Speaking to sympathizers, the deceased lawyer’s husband, Mr. Gbenga Raheem, pleaded for peace and said that nothing could bring his wife back.

On Christmas Day, while attempting to perform a U-turn at the Ajah Bridge, the late Raheem was shot by a police officer.

She was a graduate of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State.

She was the Chief Executive Officer of Croston Homes and co-founder, City Building, a real estate and property development company.

The deceased was seven months pregnant when the tragedy struck.

President Muhammadu Buhari had condemned the killing of Raheem.

He said this in a statement on Tuesday by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman.

According to the statement, Buhari said he was saddened to hear of the incident, calling it “heinous and senseless”.

The president also said he has directed the police authorities to take “the strongest possible action” against the culprit.

He added that the incident is a wake-up call to law enforcement agencies to ensure the full implementation of reforms instituted by the current administration on weapon handling and the protection of the rights of citizens.

Meanwhile, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has called on the police to put in place a formidable programme in weapon handling as cases of unprovoked shooting and killing of innocent Nigerians have become worrisome.

The Lagos police command has also said two officers arrested over the killing would be released on Tuesday, after being found to not have been involved in the crime.
