Jennifer Efidi, Nigerian Heroine Recounts Attack During 2023 Presidential Election
On Saturday, February 25, Jennifer Efidi became a national hero after she defied all odds to exercise her civic responsibility at the 2023 presidential election.
The Bayelsa-state born Jennifer Efidi was injured in the face after an object was thrown at her by political miscreants, however, she came back to exercise her voting rights despite the debacle at a polling unit in Surulere, Lagos, during the presidential and senatorial election.
“They can only disfigure my face, they can’t stop me from voting,” she was reported as saying.

There were videos of her face being stitched after the attacks and pictures of her returning to exercise her vote.
Violent attacks by thugs have been reported in several polling units across the nation, with stolen ballot boxes, shooting at voters and burning of election materials.

Her action has since made her emerge as a sensational individual in the society.
In an interview with BBC Africa, Jennifer Efidi recounted how the incident unraveled.
“Really, I would say, I never anticipated the outcome,” Efidi said during the interview.
She continued, “I went out like every normal Nigerian that wanted to vote. I joined the queue, the queue was a long one, so I couldn’t stand for long.”
Efidi went further to say, “Some group of boys just walked down- they were opposite where we were seated.”
“About 30 minutes later, I heard gunshots and felt a huge impact on my face”
“Initially, I thought, I have been shot at,” Efidi stated. “I thought that a bullet had hit me, however, people were running pass me despite my outcry for help.”
Speaking further, she said, “I saw some broken bottles, which I presume was thrown at me,”
“I had to be taken to the hospital for proper medical attention, It was a very difficult one,” she added.
Becoming The Heroine…. Efidi Casts Her Vote Against All Odds
In the latter part of the interview session, the heroine explained her decision to cast her vote despite the incident.
She mentioned that it was he civic responsibility and she had to complete her task so as to make a change as a patriotic citizen of Nigeria.
