After scoring in Wednesday’s victory over Arsenal for Man City, Erling Haaland surpassed the Premier League record for most goals in a 38-game season.
The Norwegian has been on a tear his entire first season in England, and he’s been trying to catch Mohamed Salah of Liverpool for most goals scored.
Prior to Haaland’s arrival, the Egyptian forward had held the record since 2017–18, when he scored 32 goals throughout the Reds’ Premier League season.

In last month’s 3-1 victory against Leicester, the former Borussia Dortmund striker tied Salah’s total before surpassing him with a late goal against the Gunners.
However, he’s still not the highest single-season goalscorer in the league’s history, after Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer both nabbed 34 goals in 1993-94 and 1994-95 respectively.
However, these achievements were met when the Premier League season was four games longer, owing to 22 top-flight clubs.
It means that Cole and Shearer have an unfair advantage over Haaland, in regard to the amount of matches that they can achieve the goalscoring record in.
Despite this, the Norwegian remains on track to surpass both of them given the fact City still has six top-flight matches remaining.
The 22-year-old has been prolific in all aspects for Pep Guardiola’s side, having notched a total of 49 goals in all competitions this season.
On top of his impressive tally in the Premier League, the Norwegian also has 12 goals in eight appearances in the Champions League, three in three in the FA Cup, and one goal in two Carabao Cup outings.
Perhaps his most impressive display came during City’s 7-0 demolition of RB Leipzig earlier in their Champions League campaign, where he managed to score five goals.
He became just the second player in the competition’s history, after Lionel Messi, to achieve the accolade.
