INEC, EFCC Engage 18 Lawyers For Prosecution Of Electoral Offenders

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Economic and Financial Crime Commission have appointed 18 lawyers to prosecute electoral offenders.

The commissions also appointed two Senior Advocates of Nigeria.

The 18 lawyers – all legal officers of both INEC and the EFCC – will prosecute electoral offences relating to financial crimes arising from the 2023 general elections.

Earlier, the EFCC deployed 100 armed operatives to combat vote buying in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states during Saturday’s supplementary elections in the states.

The Kano Zonal Commander of EFCC, Mr Farouk Dogondaji, in an interview in Kano on Friday, said 20 personnel were deployed to monitor the conduct of the state Assembly elections in Kafur, Kankara in Katsina State.

He explained that adequate personnel were also deployed to monitor the exercise in Tudun Wada/Doguwa, and Takai federal constituency, as well as some state assembly elections in Kano State.

Dogondaji said other personnel were also deployed for House of Assembly elections in Katsina and Jigawa, to prevent vote buying.
