In a phone call honouring the conclusion of Ramadan, President Muhammadu Buhari and President-elect Bola Tinubu exchanged Sallah greetings on Friday morning.
This was said in a statement that Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President for Media and Publicity, signed late on Friday.
Shehu said in the statement titled, “President Buhari and Tinubu exchange Sallah greetings,” that Buhari had said he was ready to welcome Tinubu to the White House on May 29.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Tinubu the victor of the presidential election on February 25, and this was done on March 1 of 2023.
The former Lagos governor polled 8,794,726 votes to beat the Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar, who garnered 6,984,520 votes and the Labour Party’s Peter Obi, who came third with 6,101,533 votes.
The call came hours before the President asked Nigerians hurt by his policies for a pardon.
Buhari described himself as a fortunate and content politician while speaking at a State House banquet with selected members of the Federal Capital Territory community. He previously held the positions of military governor of Borno State in 1976, minister of petroleum resources that same year, and head of state from 1983 to 1985.
He praised citizens for “tolerating” his eight-year presidency, which started on May 29, 2015, when he took office.
I think this is a very good coincidence for me to say goodbye to you and thank you for tolerating me for more than seven and a half years.
I honestly consider myself very lucky; I was made a governor, minister of petroleum, head of state in uniform, then after three attempts, God, through technology and PVC, I became president. I think God has given me an incredible opportunity to serve as your president. And I thank God for that.
So, please, whoever feels I have done wrong to them, we are all humans. There is no doubt I hurt some people and I wish you will pardon me. And those that think that I have hurt them so much, please pardon me.
