Following a succession of abatement notices, the Lagos State Government closed the well-known Alade Market in Ikeja’s Onigbongbo Local Council Area early on Wednesday due to violations of environmental rules.
The closure followed the directive by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab.
Kunle Adeshina, the director of public affairs for the ministry, made this announcement on his official X handle (previously Twitter).

According to Adeshina, the enforcement was conducted by agents of the Lagos State Waste Management Agency (LAWMA) in coordination with the LAGESC and KAI (Kick Against Indiscipline).
“As directed by Honorable Commissioner for The Environment and Water Resources, MOE&WR, Tokunbo Wahab,enforcement operatives from LAWMA and KAI/ LAGESC in a joint operation on Wednesday morning sealed Alade Market situated in Onigbongbo LCDA,” Adeshina noted.
According to Adesina, the market won’t reopen unless a number of requirements are satisfied.
The ministry has begun to close down numerous well-known marketplaces in the state due to environmental violations.
Oyingbo, Alayabiagba, Mile-12, Alaba International, ASPAMDA, Ladipo, and Oke-Odo are a few of the marketplaces that are impacted.
