The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has debunked reports of a kidnapping incident at the River Park Estate in Abuja on Sunday, January 21st. In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the police clarified that the incident was a fabricated story by a man attempting to defraud his brother.
“Contrary to reports, nobody was kidnapped in River Park Estate,” the statement emphasized. “One Nnandi Agu, a resident of Games Village, faked his own kidnap in an attempt to defraud his brother who lives within the Estate.”

The suspect, Nnandi Agu, is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation. While the investigation is still ongoing, the police assured the public that further developments will be communicated.
This incident highlights the importance of verifying information before sharing it, particularly online. The quick response and clarification by the FCT Police Command helped to dispel rumors and prevent further anxiety among residents.
However, the case also raises concerns about the lengths to which some individuals may go to commit fraud. The FCT Police Command’s statement serves as a reminder to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
