Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police (IGP), has ordered the deployment of police officers and security equipment to the Kaduna-Abuja expressway.

The Kaduna-Abuja expressway is a hotbed of kidnappings and killings as perpetrated by bandits.

Over 80 travellers were kidnapped by bandits along the expressway at Dogon Fili between January 4 and 7, 2024.

Four persons were killed during the attacks.

In a statement on Thursday, Muyiwa Adejobi, force spokesperson, said the IGP has directed, Ede Ekpeji, deputy IG of operations, to ensure strict compliance of officers mobilised to the route.

Adejobi said Egbetokun called for collaboration between security operatives and the affected communities.

“In response to the growing concerns regarding security along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has implemented robust measures to enhance safety and security in the region,” the statement reads.

“The inspector-general of police, while emphasizing the collaboration between various security agencies and concerned communities in the region, urges the public to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities, and cooperate with security personnel as the collective effort is crucial in maintaining the security and wellbeing of all residents and travelers.”
