The latest FIFA rankings released today paint a disappointing picture for Nigerian football fans. The Super Eagles have tumbled eight places to 38th globally, marking a significant decline after a string of underwhelming performances in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

This news comes as Argentina retains its top spot in the rankings, solidifying their dominance on the international stage.

Nigeria’s drop can be attributed to several factors. The team’s recent struggles in the qualifiers, with back-to-back draws and a concerning lack of goalscoring prowess, have undoubtedly impacted their ranking points.

Formerly ranked 30th in March, Nigeria’s decline follows its performance in the two matches after the African Cup of Nations, where they emerged as runners-up after losing 2-1 to the host nation.
