The Lagos State Government has revealed plans to mount cameras on public BRT buses operated by the state.

This was disclosed on Sunday during a meeting organised by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority to gather feedback and collaborate with drivers, operators, and other stakeholders to enhance BRT and other bus services.

The Lagos Bus Rapid Transit System, also known as Lagos BRT, is one of the public vehicles regulated by LAMATA.

A statement from the agency noted that the Head of Bus Services at LAMATA, Dr. Olukemi Amure, led the discussion, and reviewed resolutions from a prior meeting to determine progress on past issues.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had in 2022 noted that buses procured for BRT from abroad had short-circuit cameras and that those locally supplied to boost the transport operation did not come with inbuilt cameras.

LAMATA’s statement on Sunday noted that “Dr. Amure also shared exciting news about the Lagos State Government’s plan to re-install cameras in all authorised public transportation vehicles progressively.”
