Nigerian Actress Dakore Akande Issues Cease and Desist Over Alleged Defamatory Post

Nollywood actress Dakore Akande has issued a cease and desist notice against popular Instagram blog “Gistloversblog” and its associated handles.

The notice, sent by Akande’s legal representatives, alleges that the blog posted “suggestive and libellous content” containing Akande’s image and linking her romantically to Senator (Dr) Godswill Obot Akpabio, the President of the Nigerian Senate.

The letter, a copy of which was obtained by MDB, states that the post is “falsely connecting” Akande to Senator Akpabio and includes “false remarks.” It emphasizes that Akande is “happily married to Mr Akande for many years” and has “never met the said Senate President in person or otherwise.”

The notice expresses concern that the alleged misinformation could “tarnish our Client’s reputation,” calling the blog’s actions “both damaging and unlawful.” It cites Section 375 of the Criminal Code Act as grounds for potential legal action, suggesting the post could be considered defamation.

The letter demands the immediate removal of the offending post and a halt to “any further defamatory statements” about Dakore Akande. It warns of “aggressive legal actions” including seeking damages, injunctive relief, and legal costs if the blog fails to comply within 24 hours.

Gistloversblog, known for its often salacious celebrity gossip, has yet to publicly respond to the cease and desist notice.
