The Ogba Magistrate Court has dismissed a domestic violence case involving Surajudeen Oyetunji Oyewale after the alleged victim withdrew her claims. The case gained public attention due to Mr. Oyewale’s own admission of wrongdoing on his social media platform (@SirJarus).

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) received the case based on Mr. Oyewale’s social media post and referred it to the Lagos State Police, Gender Desk Department. SirJarus faced two charges: assault against his spouse and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

However, during court proceedings, Mr. Oyewale’s spouse denied the allegations and requested the case be dropped. Magistrate Owolabi ruled to dismiss the charges on the condition that Mr. Oyewale deactivates his X (Twitter) account for one month and attend counseling sessions with the DSVA. The agency will then submit a report to the court.

The DSVA commended the Lagos State Police for their swift response and expressed appreciation to those who brought the case to their attention. They emphasized the Lagos State Government’s commitment to supporting survivors of domestic violence and ensuring their voices are heard.

The DSVA provided their toll-free hotlines (08000-333-333 and 0813-796-0048) for anyone experiencing domestic or sexual violence, reiterating their commitment to providing help and resources.
