The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II, on Friday, expressed dismay over the nationwide hunger protest, which degenerated into violence in Kano State, resulting in the loss of lives and destruction of property valued at billions of naira.
The first-class monarch described the incident as “saddening and pathetic” and a setback for the state’s socio-economic development.
Addressing a press at his palace, Sanusi, who is the 14th Emir of Kano, regretted that the protest was hijacked by miscreants and agents of destruction, leading to chaos and destruction of property belonging to the people of the state.
He noted that the funds which would be used to repair the damaged property could have been invested in poverty alleviation, education, and nutrition.
Also, the Emir lamented the destruction of the Digital Centre of Excellence, built by the Nigerian Communications Commission, which was meant to provide digital training and education to youths.
While calling on the people of Kano to refrain from further violence, Sanusi urged parents, ward heads, Imams, and District heads to sensitize and educate their communities on the negative consequences of such actions.
He emphasised the need for collective responsibility, to prevent similar incidents in future and promote development in Kano.
