A confusing scenario has unfolded within the presidency, as Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga contradicts the State House’s earlier post of a video message from President Bola Tinubu, claiming it is an old recording.
The video shared on the Presidency’s X and Instagram handles on Wednesday, shows Tinubu urging Nigerians to be patient with his administration amidst economic hardships. However, Onanuga later disputed the video’s authenticity, stating it was from a 2023 broadcast and not a new message.
He wrote: “Trending video of President Tinubu is an old video
“A trending video of President Tinubu which came out on Wednesday is not a new video. It’s a clip from the broadcast he made last year.
“President Tinubu has not made any other public statement since his last broadcast on Sunday.”
This inconsistency has raised questions about the coherence of communication among presidential aides, sparking confusion among Nigerians. The State House’s initial post implied the video was a new message, while Onanuga’s subsequent claim has left many wondering about the true nature of the president’s statement.
The incident highlights the need for clear and consistent communication from the presidency to avoid misleading the public and undermining trust in the administration’s messaging.
