In a speech aimed at calming tensions and promoting unity, President Bola Tinubu, on Sunday, emphasized the need for collective effort, saying “Nigeria requires all hands on deck” to overcome its challenges. He stressed that this endeavor transcends age, party, tribe, religion, and other divisions.
However, the President also issued a strong warning to those exploiting the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests to spread ethnic bigotry and threats, stating that “the law will catch up with you.” He emphasized that such behavior has no place in the Nigeria they aim to build.
Tinubu said, “I hereby enjoin protesters and the organisers to suspend any further protest and create room for dialogue, which I have always acceded to at the slightest opportunity. Nigeria requires all hands on deck and needs us all – regardless of age, party, tribe, religion or other divides, to work together in reshaping our destiny as a nation. To those who have taken undue advantage of this situation to threaten any section of this country, be warned: The law will catch up with you. There is no place for ethnic bigotry or such threats in the Nigeria we seek to build.”
This appeal for peace and unity comes as the country grapples with the aftermath of violent protests. President Tinubu’s call for dialogue and collective action may mark a turning point in addressing the grievances of protesters and fostering a more inclusive and peaceful Nigeria.
