Lucky Aiyedatiwa has emerged victorious in the Ondo State governorship election, securing 366,781 votes to defeat his closest rival, Ajayi Agboola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 117,845 votes.

The Returning Officer, Olayemi Akinwumi, declared Aiyedatiwa the winner at the INEC collation centre in Akure on Sunday at 2:30 pm.

“That Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the APC having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Akinwumi declared.

Aiyedatiwa’s landslide victory saw the All Progressives Congress (APC) clear all 18 local government areas, solidifying his position as the incumbent governor of the Sunshine State.

Aiyedatiwa’s win extends his stay at the Government House in Alagbaka, Akure, for another four years. He initially ascended to power on December 27th, 2023, after Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s death, following a lengthy battle with illness.

Akeredolu had transmitted power to Aiyedatiwa before his demise. The APC’s commanding lead, with over 200,000 votes ahead of the PDP, was evident from the early hours of Sunday, despite breaks in the collation process.
