Pastor Adeboye Demands Freedom for Jailed TikToker Accused of Insulting Him
Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has called for the release of Seaking, the TikToker detained over cyberbullying.
Seaking, whose real name is Olumide Ogunsanwo, was arrested in December for alleged treason, cyberstalking, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
This was after he shared a video on social media wherein he appeared to have insulted President Bola Tinubu, Babajide-Sanwo-Olu, Lagos governor; and Kayode Egbetokun, the inspector general of police.
He was granted bail but was rearrested at a magistrate court in Ogba, Lagos, last week, reportedly for criticising the cleric on social media.
Seaking had slammed Adeboye in a TikTok post in December for asking his congregation to fast for 100 days for Nigeria, describing the directive as “stupid”.
The video provoked a chorus of condemnation on social media.
At a recent Holy Ghost congress, Adeboye revealed that he had been informed about Seaking’s online insults against him.
The cleric, however, made it clear that he was not bothered by the insults and instead saw them as a fulfillment of prophecy.
Adeboye said he had asked his church members to fast for 100 days, and Seaking’s reaction simply manifested God’s words.
He also urged the parties involved to release Seaking, emphasizing that the social media critic is “fulfilling prophecy”.
“I heard that there was someone who lambasted me. What was my offence? Because I asked my people to fast for 100 days. I did not ask him. I did not even ask anyone who is not a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God to fast. It was only my children. But God said that it will happen,” he said.
“I was told that some people got so angry and they went and arrested the fellow. Release him. He is fulfilling prophecy. For my children, glory ahead.”
