COVID-19: “Their Irresponsibility Cost Lives” – Chimamanda Adichie Criticises US, Brazil Presidents For How They Are Handling The Pandemic
Renowned Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has criticised US president Donald Trump and Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro for their manner of approach in handling the COVID-19 pandemic in their countries.
Chimamanda shared a video of herself on Instagram listening to music from Brazilian singer Xenia Franca and expressed her displeasure through her caption.
She pointed out that Brazil and United states now have high numbers of Covid-19 cases, blaming the toll on leaders of both countries.
Chimamanda wrote;
Brazil now has the second highest number of Covid-19 cases, behind the United States.
Both countries have populist ‘leaders’ full of a vacuous braggadocio that would be funny if it didn’t have life and death consequences for so many. Their irresponsibility costs lives.
Their fragile, brittle egos cost lives.
Real leadership matters.
Love to the people of Brazil.
As at press time, 1,653,507 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the U.S. with 97,903 causalities, while Brazil has 339,687 cases and 21,579 deaths.
