Buhari To Overhaul Nigeria’s Security Architecture – Babagana Monguno
President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered re-engineering of operational strategies of the nation’s security network to effectively counter the security situation across the country.
National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno disclosed this to State House Correspondents on Tuesday after the National Security Council meeting held at the State House, Abuja.
Monguno said the President has expressed his dissatisfaction over the worsening security situation in the country.
The president, according to the adviser, told service chiefs at the briefing that their effort is not good enough.
He said Buhari expressed that Nigerians have lost confidence in the security sector but he is determined to restore that confidence.
The adviser added;
The president is angry over the declining security situation. At the last meeting, he mentioned it.
What he said today is a reaffirmation of what he said the first time. Yes, Mr President said you are doing your best, as far as he is concerned, but there is still a lot more to be done. He said he is more concerned about the promise he made to the larger Nigerian society and has now ordered an immediate re-engineering of the entire security apparatus.
He also revealed that the administration is working on a solution to the security crisis in some parts of the country.
Monguno said since the issues are operational, Bashir Magashi, minister of defence, “is working on something” and will likely give a new direction to the security agencies in the days to come.
The NSA disclosed that the council noted that production and usage of drugs is driving insecurity in the country, stressing;
The manner of killings of the victims of insurgents can only mean one thing and that is, the bandits, kidnappers and terrorists are out of their minds.
There have been complaints over the widespread insecurity in the country, with many asking the president to fire the service chiefs.
