‘Cuppy And Zlatan Situation Was Not About The Record, Gelato’ – Journalist, Joey Akan Reveals Reason For Fallout Between Singers
Music Journalist Joey Akan has taken to his Twitter page to reveal what led to the fallout between Zlatan and DJ Cuppy.
Early January, Cuppy via her Twitter page revealed that she has on Zlatan’s block list on Instagram and WhatsApp for over 10 months.
Cuppy who seemed greatly confused wondered why he blocked her, saying they were good friends.

Zlatan’s response sparked controversy as many Nigerians on social media dragged him for being rude and condescending to DJ Cuppy.

Giving more insight into the cause of their fallout, Akan in a series of tweets on Saturday stated that Zlatan’s friend, Rexxie narrated the actual incident during a Clubhouse session about the artists on Friday, January 29.
He said, as opposed to some reports in the media, Zlatan is not cross with DJ Cuppy for not getting financial reward from their collaboration in making the song ’Gelato’.
Okay. So the Cuppy and Zlatan situation was not about the record ‘Gelato.’ While friendship played a major role in the collaboration, contracts were signed. And everyone got what they agreed to get.
Narrator: “What ‘they’ agreed to get…”

The journalist stated that Zlatan and the producer got their fair share from the song, and emphasized that money from the song was not the problem.
Zlatan got a cut of the song, the producer got his due, Cuppy got the lion share, and everyone kept it moving. According to Rexxie, who was close to the process, “the money is not anything.” So Gelato, isn’t problematic. Whew!

According to Akan, trouble between the artists began when Zlatan performed at an fundraiser event in Abuja hosted by DJ Cuppy and her family, The Otedola in Abuja.
Akan stated that based on Rexxie’s statement DJ Cuppy invited Zlatan as her guest for the event but his transportation and accommodation expenses weren’t catered to.
Up next is where the problem happened. Zlatan was her guest at the fundraiser in Abuja, and wasn’t taken care of. He flew in, gave a performance, and spent money on hotels and tickets for his crew. That was disrespectful, from a friend, and so he cut her off. Blocked her. Damn!

Rexxie stated that Zlatan flew in, performed at the fundraiser, spent money on hotels and tickets for his crew which led to him cutting her off completely and also blocking her on social media.
This confirmed the previous statement of Davido’s Personal Logistic Manager, Israel Areare, who yesterday mentioned that the fundraiser event led to the fallout of the singers.

Since she’s dead to him, he has moved on, erased her from his mind, and chosen to focus on himself. That’s why he denied her existence on TV. She doesn’t exist to him.
But all’s good though. It’s no biggie. Social media won’t resolve anything for anyone. The industry continues.

However, giving an update few hours later, Akan stated that according to new information DJ Cuppy paid for Zlatan’s flights and accommodation.
He said Zlatan’s performance at the fundraising event was based on charity as DJ Cuppy herself earlier performed for free at Zlatan’s show.
New information says Cuppy paid for Zlatan’s flights and accommodation.
Turns out, the charity performance in Abuja was a transactional repayment for an earlier deed by Cuppy.
According to my source, two weeks prior, Cuppy had performed for free at Zlatan and Naira’s show.

The journalist revealed that the daughter of Billionaire, Femi Otedola had flown to Abuja with her team and her equipment, where she supported Zlatan and Naira Marley with a free performance.
DJ Cuppy reportedly handled her logistics, and did it for her friendly colleague, so the fundraiser was a professional Goodwill repayment of Cuppy’s free performance.

The fundraiser was a professional Goodwill repayment of that deed. He was catered to. And logistics handled

Akan added that over 200 people were flown into Abuja for the fundraiser event and everyone’s expenses were catered for.
Over 200 people were flown into Abuja for the event. Kwesi Arthur came from Ghana, Skuki and a few others. Everyone was flown, and their hotels were covered.
Why is there a problem then? “Entitlement,” I’m told. “He’s refusing to stick to what was agreed.”

He also revealed that Zlatan Ibile and Cuppy both share the same lawyer, Yemisi Falaye and that this person handles all their legal and financial agreements, therefore there is a level of fairness expected when it comes to monetary agreements.
Also interesting to note here that Zlatan Ibile and Cuppy both share the same lawyer, Yemisi. The same person handles all their legal and financial agreements, and there’s a level of fairness expected when it comes to monetary agreements.
