NCDC Records 388 Infections In 12 States, Eight Deaths
Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says 388 people tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday.
The latest positive samples of COVID-19 were recorded in 11 states and the federal capital territory (FCT), according to the agency’s update for August 22, 2021.
Lagos, the hardest-hit state by the pandemic, topped the COVID infection chart with 166 new cases, followed by Akwa Ibom and Rivers with 89 and 76 infections respectively.
Other states that recorded new positive samples include Oyo (15), Edo (12), Benue (11), Delta (7), FCT (4), Ogun (4), Kaduna (2), Gombe (1) and Nasarawa (1).
Also, 8 persons were confirmed to have died of COVID-19 complications on Sunday, raising the country’s total fatality toll to 2,268.
According to the agency, 135 new recoveries were reported across the country in the last 24 hours.
A total of 187,023 COVID-19 cases have now been confirmed, out of which 168,455 persons have been discharged.
Meanwhile, Akin Abayomi, Lagos commissioner for health, says the number of COVID-19 fatalities in the state has risen to 506.
Abayomi disclosed this on Sunday while providing an update on the COVID-19 situation in the state as of August 20.
He said 11 persons died of COVID-19 related complications on August 20, raising the state’s fatality figure to 506.
The 11 deaths is the second-highest number of single-day fatalities recorded in the state. The highest single-day deaths of 13 was reported on August 10.
