Adele Returns With First Single In Five Years, ‘Easy On Me’
Grammy winner, Adele has on Friday, October 15 finally released her long-awaited single, “Easy On Me,” first new song in five years and first single off her forthcoming album ’30’.
Adele opens the powerful song by saying she feels like she’s drowning in a river while desperately trying to find gold, before presumably reflecting on her relationship with her former husband, Simon Konecki.

“Baby, let me in,” she sings, asking him to “go easy on me, baby.” The emotional chorus continues, “I was still a child / Didn’t get the chance to / Feel the world around me.“
“Go easy on me, baby / I was still a child,” Adele sings on the stirring piano-led ballad’s soaring refrain. “Didn’t get the chance to feel the world around me / I had no time to choose what I chose to do.”
Singing further, the “Rolling in the Deep” singer says she “changed who I was to put you both first,” but is ultimately giving up on the marriage. The pair share son Angelo, 8.
‘Easy On Me’, which has garnered over 14 million views in 8 hours, was co-produced and co-written with Greg Kurstin, and arrives alongside a video directed by Xavier Dolan, who previously helmed the singer’s ‘Hello’ clip.
Dolan speaking about this said;
For me, there’s nothing stronger than artists reconnecting after years apart. I’ve changed. Adele’s changed. And this is an opportunity to celebrate how we’ve both evolved, and how we’ve also both remained faithful to our dearest themes. It’s all the same, but different.
Recall that Adele teased the “Easy On Me” release two weeks ago, giving eager fans a reason to look forward to October 15.

Her upcoming fourth album, titled “30” is a nod to the age she was when she began recording the songs. It’s a pattern she often follows, having dropped “19” in 2008, “21” in 2011 and “25” in 2015.
In early October, the now 33-year-old first began hinting that a new album was finally coming with social media users noticing billboards with “30” written on them in various parts of the world, spanning from Ireland to the U.S.
Adele officially announced ’30’ earlier this week, confirming that the follow-up to 2015’s ’25’ will arrive on November 19.
