Members of the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) National Working Committee (NWC) have distanced themselves from a statement published by the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, on Senator Ahmed Lawan.
Senator Lawan is the APC’s consensus candidate, according to an earlier press statement made by Senator Adamu.
Other members of the National Working Committee have expressed their disapproval of the chairman’s statement.

H.E. Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, the party’s National Organising Secretary, stated the viewpoint of the National Chairman is his own perspective and does not represent the views of other members of the NWC, speaking to reporters at the party’s national secretariat on behalf of other members of the NWC.
He went on to say that the matter was not discussed at the APC NWC meeting, and he questioned why the Chairman would make such a remark.
He stated that they are committed to the decision of the Northern and Southern governors’ forums, which instructed that the party’s next presidential candidate come from the southern region of the country in the sake of equity and fairness.
Argungu went on to say that the news that APC National Chairman, His Excellency, Senator Abdullahi Adamu has named Senator Lawan as the party’s consensus presidential candidate has caused a lot of concern among party members.
The statement by Argungu;
As members of the APC National Working Committee, we share the resentment of all loyal party members.
The announcement by the National Chairman is undemocratic and an attempt to impose Sen. Ahmed Lawan as the Presidential Candidate. Such an action is disrespectful to party leaders and delegates to National Convention.
More than anything, it is represent the worse form of disloyalty to our leader President Muhammadu Buhari. Coming from the National Chairman, it is unacceptable.
Being committed members of our party in our states, we want to affirm our unflinching loyalty to our Governors and resolutely confirm our abiding support to the decisions of our Governors the choice of Presidential Candidate.
We therefore call on all our delegates to join us in supporting every initiative of our Progressive Governors in electing APC Presidential Candidate.
