The question must be asked, when did MC Oluomo become the voice of the Yoruba people? or the gatekeeper for Yoruba values, creed and tradition?
A man like MC Oluomo should be dealt with accordingly by the authorities, however, the Nigerian justice system has failed to properly execute its duties, by calling the man to order.
On Thursday, March 16, MC Oluomo whose real name is Musuliu Akinsanya, an enforcer for the president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and stalwart for the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC) was seen threatening citizens of the federal republic of Nigeria from carrying out their civic responsibility.
Speaking during the APC conference, Oluomo stated that those who do not intend on voting for the ruling party should stay away from the polling units on Saturday, March 18 during the gubernatorial election.
“We have begged them. If they don’t want to vote for us, it is not a fight. Tell them, mama Chukwudi, if you don’t want to vote for us, sit down at home. Sit down at home,” MC Oluomo said in pidgin English as seen in a viral video shared on Twitter.

Despite coming out a day later to claim his threat was misconstrued, several voters, especially residents of Lagos state who were Igbos were disenfranchised, assaulted and attacked by political thugs.
The voters were denied the opportunity to carryout their civic responsibilities.
However, due to one man’s decree, several Lagos residents who are not from the Western part of the country, Nigeria are beginning to live in fear. It is important for people to note that the pandemonium was instigated after MC Oluomo, who positioned himself as a faux nationalist made the threats.
MC Oluomo Assumes Role Of Yoruba Tribe Gatekeeper In Lagos State
At the recently concluded gubernatorial election in Lagos state, the All Progressive Congress played the tribal card. The main contest was between the incumbent governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Labour Party’s Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
As the gubernatorial election drew closer, Lagosians geared towards the Labour Party’s candidate, Rhodes-Vivour who was also dubbed GVR by pundits. Despite being announced as the winner of the 2023 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu surprisingly failed to secure a win in Lagos state.
The Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi emerged winner of the state.
Due to APC’s poor performance in Lagos state, the ruling party decided to apply vicious methodologies and unleash fury on those who are against APC — enter MC Oluomo, the seed sown into the system by Tinubu.
At first, they demeaned the Labour Party’s candidate due to his affiliation with the Igbo tribe, his mother, Nkechi Rhodes-Vivour being Yoruba.
Days later, MC Oluomo, the chairman of the Lagos parks and garages who has been armed by the president-elect to create chaos in the state decided to terrorize the well-being and peace of the good people in Lagos.
MC Oluomo, who is inciting violence across the streets of Lagos is also an American citizen; his numerous kids are also out of the country, living their best lives overseas. The APC stalwart understands that should nationwide conflict breakout, he has somewhere to hide; meanwhile, not everyone has this opportunity.
The only place some Nigerians have known all their lives is Lagos, Nigeria or probably their hometown where they visit once every year.
Hence, it is important for Nigerians, especially supporters of whichever political party to thread with caution. It is impossible to explain how things would unravel in the coming days, months, weeks or throughout Tinubu’s tenure as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
What Will Be The Legacy Of ‘Yoruba Lokan’?
The incidents that happened during the 2023 gubernatorial election does not describe the tenets and values of the Yoruba value system.
The Yoruba culture also has a well-defined value system that is very important to them. Some of the values include wisdom, integrity, valour, hard work, honour, and wealth.
Hating on other tribes isn’t part of the characteristics of the Yoruba ethnic group. Feeling insecure and demeaning others is bottom-barrel behaviour, very despicable. The chaos is the brainchild of one man, the self-acclaimed strategist.
Yorubas are altruistic people; welcoming visitors with open arms and Lagos- a multicultural society thrived simply because of the co-existence of various ethnic groups encompassing as a unit.
Yorubas are disciplined and believe in meritocracy and not what the president-elect and his minions have made it seem like they are practicing at the moment which is Kakistocracy.
Following the recent struggles and turmoil that Nigerians have been through in recent years, the president-elect ought to be looking at methodologies and approach on how to develop our nation into the ‘Giant of Africa’ as she has always been dubbed, not this appalling identity that is debasing.
The tribal card that has been presented by the ruling party is nefarious and could harm the unity of the most populous state in Nigeria. The beauty of a nation is in the diversification of the language, culture, tradition, values and beliefs.
If indeed Tinubu is a nationalist as he claims, and has the best interest of Nigerians at heart, he shouldn’t have to shove himself down the throats of the people through violence, threat and intense rigging.
Let’s see how Lagos state will fare after the March 18, 2023 gubernatorial elections. Also, let’s see the outcome of Tinubu’s presidency.
