The letter from the state governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, alerting them of the extension of his medical leave was confirmed by the Ondo State House of Assembly on Monday.
The Assembly was previously informed of the governor’s medical leave on June 5, 2023. The governor, who is ill and has been undergoing treatment in a hospital, was scheduled to return to work on July 6, 2023, but was unable to do so.

To this purpose, Mr. Olamide Oladiji, speaker of the Assembly, issued a statement stating that the governor was unable to resume because he was according to his doctor’s advice to take proper rest after healing.
The speaker who received the letter on behalf of other lawmakers, said the governor’s action was in line with section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria ( as amended).
The statement read, “His (Akeredolu’s) deputy, Hon . Lucky Aiyedatiwa would continue to act as governor until there is a written declaration to the contrary.”
The speaker, who appreciated God for the speedy recovery of the governor, expressed optimism that he would soon resume his duty.
