The Lagos State Government has assured motorists in the state that the traffic diversion directive following the ongoing repair of a section of the Third Mainland Bridge will not cause traffic congestion and hardship to road users.
The government’s assurance follows the announcement of the eight-week-long diversion of traffic plan, which is occasioned by the repair of some parts of the bridge.
The diversion on the Iyana-Oworonshoki-inwards Adeniji Adele section of the popular bridge was said to have paralysed traffic flow across Lagos on Tuesday.
Speaking with the press on Wednesday, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Mrs Bolalanle Ogunlola, said the officials of the Lagos State Traffic Maintenance Agency had been fully deployed to ensure the diversion did not cause further gridlock and breakdown of traffic laws in the state.
She said, “The government has already deployed some LASTMA officials there. The purpose for which they are there is to monitor and encourage motorists to navigate their way.
“There should not be any issue. There are enough diversion notices that are mounted on the expressway even before getting to the location.”
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, had said 250 traffic management personnel had been deployed in the area to minimise inconvenience and ensure hitch-free movement for motorists during the diversion period.
He further noted that the ministry was working hand in glove with the Federal Ministry of Works, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Police Force, and other relevant agencies to ensure safety, security, and sanity during the period of the repairs.
