Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde has revealed why there is a delay in extraditing three Malians indicted in the explosion which occurred at Bodija, Ibadan, in January.
Makinde said the extradition was delayed due to Mali’s withdrawal from the Economic Community of West Africa States.
In January, an explosion rocked parts of Ibadan, leaving some persons dead, while many were reported injured with property worth millions of naira damaged.
Following the incident, Makinde stated that the inferno was caused by an explosive device.
He said investigations revealed that illegal miners who were occupying one of the houses in the Bodija area of the state stored explosive devices that caused the blast.
In an official report explosion, three ‘persons of interest’ were named in connection with the cause of the unfortunate incident.
The governor, however, vowed that they would face the full wrath of the law based on the investigation carried out.
Meanwhile, in a post, on his X handle on Saturday, the governor said the state is facing difficulties in extraditing the suspects.
“Let me take this opportunity to report that we are still trying to extradite the Malians indicted in the Bodija Incident who are on the run.
“We are having difficulties because Mali pulled out of ECOWAS. We will continue to deploy diplomatic means to ensure they are brought to book,” Makinde stated in the post.
