In a bid to mitigate the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, the Federal Government has assured that it is working tirelessly to resolve the issues driving the demonstration. The protest, sparked by economic hardship, has been gaining momentum, with various groups and individuals mobilizing support.

On Wednesday, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, convened a closed-door meeting with ministers to address the looming crisis. Following the meeting, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, expressed optimism that the government would find solutions to the pressing issues.

Idris emphasized that the government views the protest as a “family matter,” acknowledging that those agitating for change are fellow Nigerians. He assured that the government is engaging with stakeholders and protest organizers to ensure peace and stability prevail.

The minister revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari has held multiple meetings with key stakeholders, and government functionaries have also been engaging with various groups. Idris expressed confidence that the government’s efforts would yield positive results, stating, “No one is going to sleep until the issues are resolved.”

As the August 1 deadline approaches, the government’s ability to address the economic hardship and placate protesters remains to be seen. The situation continues to unfold, with the nation watching to see if the government’s assurances will translate into tangible actions.
