First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has made a heartfelt appeal to market women across Nigeria, urging them not to inflate prices of food items as the Yuletide season approaches. This plea comes at a time when many Nigerians are bracing themselves for the festive period, often associated with increased costs of living.

Senator Tinubu made this appeal during her recent visit to Ebonyi State, where she attended the 2024 Ebonyi Women’s Day Celebration. She emphasized the importance of maintaining affordable prices for essential commodities, acknowledging the significant role market women play in ensuring food security and sustainability.

The First Lady’s appeal is particularly significant, given the economic challenges many Nigerians face. By urging market women to refrain from hiking prices, Senator Tinubu hopes to alleviate some of the financial burdens on ordinary citizens during the festive season.

In addition to her appeal, Senator Oluremi Tinubu also inaugurated a 3.1-kilometer runway at the Wilberforce Chuba Okadigbo International Airport in Ebonyi State. This infrastructure development is expected to boost socio-economic growth in the region.

During her interaction with traditional rulers in Ebonyi State, Senator Tinubu praised the state’s peaceful nature, describing it as a beacon of hope for the country. She also acknowledged the state governor’s efforts in promoting women’s empowerment, noting that his administration has exceeded the 35% threshold for female appointments.

The First Lady’s visit to Ebonyi State was marked by several charitable gestures, including a donation of ₦50 million, 20,000 wrappers, shoes, and bags to support women’s businesses in the state.
