President Bola Tinubu has conferred the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Modi was honoured on Sunday during a bilateral meeting in Aso Rock.
“The honour is to signify our appreciation of India as Nigeria’s partner,” Tinubu said.
“Nigeria values its excellent relationship with India, and we work to deepen and broaden the same to the mutual benefit of our two friendly countries.”
The visit also features some delegation-level talks and exchange of memoranda of understanding.
“President Tinubu and Prime Minister Modi will seek to strengthen Nigeria’s and India’s ties further during their bilateral discussions,” the presidency said in a statement.
“Both leaders will exchange signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) to enhance collaboration in critical sectors.”
Modi’s visit is the first by an Indian prime minister since Manmohan Singh’s state visit in 2007.
