Presidency to Catholic Bishops: Tinubu Is Steering Nigeria on the Right Path
Nigeria has made tremendous progress in all areas since President Tinubu assumed office about 22 months ago, the Presidency has said.
It said that despite concerns raised by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, at its first plenary meeting of 2025 in Abuja, the country is making remarkable progress under Tinubu.
This was made known in a statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Onanuga, who acknowledged that some of the governance challenges in the areas highlighted by the Bishops remain, noted that the country made tremendous progress in security, economy, youth empowerment among others.
He was responding to comments by the CBCN President, Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru, who listed youth unemployment, insecurity, poverty, corruption, and electoral fraud as some of the ills plaguing the country.
“President Tinubu appreciates the Catholic Bishops’ commitment to national unity and peace. Under his leadership, Nigeria is more secure than in 2023, with over 8,000 criminals eliminated and 10,000 captives rescued. Improved security has boosted food production and economic growth.
“Tinubu’s administration has stabilized the economy, increased local refining, and strengthened the currency. Youth-focused programs like 3MTT and NATEP aim to create over 10 million jobs. With a record N54.9 trillion 2025 budget, the government is focused on infrastructure and development. Despite current challenges, the administration remains optimistic about Nigeria’s future,” the statement read in part.
