Police Release Peace Corps Commander, Akor
The Nigerian Police authorities have released the National Commandant of the National Peace Corps, Amb. Dickson Akoh, and several of his colleagues, Leadership writes.
In a sweeping raid on their national headquarters on Wednesday, Akor along with 46 other members of the corps were taken into custody on allegations of illegal training of personnel among others levelled against the outfit.
The raid came shortly after officers and men of the Peace Corps had rounded off celebrations for the official opening of their new National Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
In an earlier statement, the Nigerian Police force had accused the Peace Corps of Nigeria of unlawfully turning itself into a security outfit without authorisation and establishment by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The NPF said the Corps had deviated from the purposes for which they were registered as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) by the Corporate Affairs Commission.
This is a developing story, we’ll update with details as they unfold…
