Nigerian Army Decimates Boko Haram Bomb Factory In Bornoy
Troops of the Nigerian Army have destroyed a bomb factory in Borno state while carrying out a raid, spokesman Brig-Gen S K Usman said in a statement on Friday.
The factory located in Gombole village in Konduga local government area of the state was reportedly being used by terrorist group, Boko Haram for the production of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED).
Brig-Gen Usman in his statement said the bomb factory was discovered by troops of the 103 Battalion of Operation Lafiya Dole during a clearance operation in Gombole.
The troops were also able to rescue 4 women and 6 children that were held captive by the Boko Haram while also recovering 4 suicide vests, 4 stolen military desert camouflage and 3 motorcycles from the factory.
Usman stated that the troops neutralised a number of the insurgents during the operation, while others fled. The operation was however not all smooth for the army, reports Vanguard.
“Unfortunately, a soldier sustained injury and he was evacuated by the Nigerian Air Force. The soldier is in stable condition,’’ the army spokesman said.
Troops have been conducting clearance and mop-up operations in areas the insurgents are suspected to have hidden after they were dislodged from their last stronghold in the Sambisa forest in December.
One of such operations resulted in the rescue of 455 persons comprising men, women and children earlier held hostage while a number of the terrorists were also killed.
Despite official claims of victory over Boko Haram, the group has still carried out a number of attacks in some states in the north-east especially Borno in recent weeks.
