Ex-Imo State Governor, Ikedi Ohakim, Threatens To Protest Naked Over Non-Payment Of Judges In The State By Governor Rochas Okorocha
Former Imo state governor, Ikedi Ohakim, has threatened to go naked in protest of the non-payment of judges in the state’s judicial service by the current state governor, Rochas Okorocha.
The former governor who spoke to newsmen at his home in Owerri, the state capital, said high court judges in the state had not been paid for about 16 months, adding that this is unacceptable.
Ohakim alleged that the state government also failed to pay about N7 billion, which the courts ordered it to be paid to those concerned. He said if the state government fails to pay the affected judges, he will protest naked along Wethdral Road, Owerri sometime in March.
”A governor is not bigger than the judiciary. For one year and four months, no judge in Imo State has received a kobo as salary.
They are being intimidated, as some are often called into a room and warned.
Unfortunately, no body wants to speak for these judges. But, I want to congratulate the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for instituting legal action against Okorocha’s administration on the issue.”he said
Ohakim at the press conference revealed he will be running for governor of the state in the upcoming gubernatorial election.
