JAMB gives erring institutions 7 days to rectify admission breaches

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned several higher institutions for breaching admission regulations, describing their actions as an “aberration” and ordering them to correct the infractions within seven days.

According to JAMB’s weekly bulletin released on Monday, the affected institutions had been summoned to a meeting with the Board on August 18, 2025, after admitting students through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) but failing to upload their matriculation lists. During the session, the institutions admitted fault, tendered apologies, and appealed for leniency.

Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, condemned the violations, stressing that institutions are legally required to comply with Section 23, subsection 7 of the admission guidelines. He reminded the schools that matriculation lists must be submitted to JAMB for review before any matriculation ceremony is approved.

“You conducted admissions on CAPS but you did not matriculate any student. We feel that before we forward the report to the government, we should interact with you,” Oloyede said.

He warned that any student whose name is missing from the National Matriculation List would be deemed not properly admitted, rendering such admissions invalid. He further cautioned that institutions risk both regulatory sanctions and potential lawsuits from affected students.

At the close of the meeting, the institutions resolved to:

  • Submit formal letters of apology on CAPS within 24 hours;
  • Upload all outstanding matriculation lists within seven days of August 18, 2025; and
  • Ensure affiliate institutions operate strictly under their parent institutions with designated supervisory officers.

JAMB noted that while the institutions’ apologies would be considered in processing the matriculation lists, the step was primarily to safeguard students from being penalised for the violations committed by their schools.
