Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has achieved a new milestone, becoming the first active footballer in history to amass a net worth exceeding $1 billion.
According to financial reports from Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Ronaldo’s earnings include a combination of record-breaking contracts, lucrative sponsorship deals, and diverse business ventures ranging from fashion and fragrances to hotels and gyms.
The Al-Nassr forward, who currently plays in the Saudi Pro League, continues to top global athlete earnings charts, with annual income reportedly surpassing $200 million.
“Ronaldo earned over $550 million in salary between 2002 and 2023,” the report reads.
“He also signed a decade-long Nike deal for nearly $18 million annually and other endorsements with brands like Armani and Castrol, adding over $175 million to his net worth.
“His 2023 transfer to Al-Nassr earned him around $200 million yearly in tax-free salary and bonuses, plus perks including a $30 million signing bonus.”
Ronaldo’s off-pitch ventures, particularly his CR7 brand, which spans clothing, eyewear, perfumes, and hospitality, have significantly contributed to his financial success, cementing his reputation as both a football icon and a global business powerhouse.
With this achievement, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner joins the ranks of elite athletes such as Tiger Woods, Floyd Mayweather, and LeBron James, who reached billionaire status during or after their sporting careers.
