The Kano State Government has directed the state Hisbah Board to begin preparations for the wedding of no fewer than 2,000 couples under its mass wedding programme.
The board’s Deputy Commander-General, Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen, disclosed this in an interview with The PUNCH on Thursday, saying the state government had approved the new phase of the initiative under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
“We are planning to conduct a mass wedding of another batch of 2,000 couples as directed by the state government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf,” he said.
Aminudeen explained that while the date for the ceremony had not yet been fixed, preparations would soon commence to ensure a smooth exercise.
He also outlined the conditions prospective couples must meet before participating in the programme.
According to him, all intending couples are required to register and undergo compulsory medical screening to determine their health status.
“All prospective couples must undergo HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, genotype, and drug tests, among others. Anyone who fails to present himself or herself for the screening will be automatically disqualified,” he said.
The Hisbah official emphasised that the medical screening is part of the mandatory procedures put in place to ensure the well-being of participants and prevent future marital crises related to health incompatibility.
