Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has called for a period of fasting and prayers in response to the renewed wave of Boko Haram attacks in the North-East.
Speaking in Maiduguri on Saturday, Zulum said the spiritual exercise was necessary to seek divine intervention as communities continue to grapple with insurgent violence. He urged residents, religious leaders, and traditional institutions to unite in prayer for peace and stability.
“We must combine our security efforts with spiritual commitment. I call on all citizens to join in fasting and prayers so that God will bring an end to this insurgency,” the governor declared.
The governor’s appeal comes amid reports of fresh Boko Haram raids on villages in Borno and Yobe States, which have left several people dead and displaced hundreds. Security agencies have intensified operations in the region, but Zulum stressed that military action alone cannot resolve the crisis.
He emphasized that the fight against insurgency requires both community resilience and spiritual fortification, noting that the people of Borno have endured over a decade of violence, destruction, and displacement.
The governor also reassured residents of his administration’s continued support for security agencies and humanitarian relief efforts, while urging patience and solidarity.
