The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly apprehended a medical doctor accused of providing drugs to kidnapping gangs operating in parts of Kwara State.
The suspect, whose identity was not immediately disclosed, was arrested in the Jebba area following intelligence that couriers had been transporting medical supplies from Sokoto to treat injured bandits hiding in forested regions of the state.
Security sources revealed that several of the criminal groups sustained gunshot wounds during recent clashes with security forces. Officials have therefore advised tighter security around health facilities located near dense forests, warning that such areas could be targeted by kidnappers seeking treatment.
Confirming the arrest, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, described the development as a significant breakthrough in the fight against banditry.
“This is a major stride by the DSS. It reinforces the fact that security agencies are closing in on these criminals and blocking the support systems that enable their operations,” Ajakaye said.
He added that the state government remains committed to deepening collaboration with security agencies to dismantle all networks aiding kidnapping activities.
