Last year September, the Constitutional Court in South Africa legalized the personal use of marijuana in a private space. Now, some Indian hemp smokers are maximising the opportunity by launching a competition hosted by the biggest marijuana plant in the country.

The winner will walk away with R1, 000 (over N26,000). Seed manufacturer Starke Ayres and TransfOrmus, the parent company of enOrmous Bud, also launched a marijuana home-growing kit but without the seeds.

According to the company, they are offering a free guide on how to grow your bush outdoors, along with each kit purchased.

Many people shared their interest in the competition.

Khali Rasenyalo (23) told Daily Sun this was a good way to ensure there was less buying of weed. “It’s a good initiative, plus there is money involved. I have no doubt about joining the competition. “After all, I will be doing what I love and getting paid for it.”

Mzwakhe Mkhize (33) said:

“I had a plan to plant bigger and fast- growing plantations. I’ll use my idea to take part in the competition.
“Once I win it, I’ll use that money to take my plan elsewhere.”

At first, I thought that if this competition were to happen in a Nigeria where marijuana were legal, the N26,000 price will be deemed as small. But on a second thought many people smoke it without being paid so they just might be super willing to participate.

Thankfully, Marijuana is not yet legal in Nigeria.
