Ambode Signs N844bn MoU On 4th Mainland Bridge
Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, yesterday, signed a N844 billion Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Fourth Mainland Bridge.
The 38-kilometre bridge project is coming almost 50 years after the creation of the state and almost 30years after the delivery of the Third Mainland Bridge.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ambode said the project would make life more comfortable for Lagosians.
A Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement with four partners, Ambode said when completed, will be the longest bridge and expressway anywhere in the country.
The governor said it was the first time in the history of the state that it would embark on the construction of a long-span bridge and expressway without federal funding.
The governor said when completed, the project would serve as an alternative route to the eastern axis and generally decongest traffic in the state.
“
The bridge will provide the required transportation compliment to the rapidly growing industrial activities on the Eti-Osa-Lekki-Epe corridor of the state.”
According to him, the proposed alignment would pass through Lekki, Langbasa and Baiyeiku towns along the shoreline of the Lagos Lagoon estuaries
and further run through Igbogbo River Basin, crossing the Lagos Lagoon estuaries to Itamaga Area in Ikorodu.
The bridge, which would be made up of eight interchanges to facilitate effective interconnectivity between different parts of the state, would then cross the Itoikin Road and the Ikorodu-Sagamu
Road to connect Isawo inward Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at Ojodu Berger axis.
A-four-lane dual carriageway bridge, with each comprising three lanes and two metres hard shoulder on each side, will be constructed to have a generous median to allow for both future carriageway expansion and light rail facility.
“I am delighted that this project which has been on the drawing board for quite some time is now set to become a reality. This again, is the continuity with improvement, which we promised Lagosians.
“We have started the process with the signing of this MoU which is an expression of the commitment
of major stakeholders, including the government and the consortium of consultants and investors to the delivery of the project within the scheduled time frame,” he said.
Assuring residents of his administration’s commitment to the Lagos Project with world-class transportation system as a vital component, Ambode said he would continue to leverage on its endowments to explore opportunities to give the state an efficient, effective and integrated transportation system.
A consortium of contractors for the multibillion-naira project includes, Julius Berger,
Hitek, Eldorado Nig. Ltd., Visible Accent, Advanced Consortium, among others.
This is laudable I hope its beneficial to all concern.
Still all talks, until work actually begins on the project then we can start celebrating, this has been the same story with the 2nd Niger bridge.. anyway it’s a nice initiative.
