A presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, has taken a jab at former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, following reports of his expulsion from the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In a brief but pointed post shared via his X handle on Monday, Onanuga wrote: “Internally Displaced Again!”
This is a statement interpreted by many as a sarcastic reference to El-Rufai’s recent political movements.
His comment came shortly after media reports emerged that the SDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) had expelled El-Rufai from the party and imposed a 30-year ban on his political participation within its ranks.
The party stated that the decision was consistent with its constitution, ideology, and operational principles.
El-Rufai, a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), reportedly joined the SDP after exiting the ruling party. However, he has since aligned himself with other political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, in what appears to be a political realignment under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
