Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Wednesday,dismissed the video of suspected bandits claiming sponsorship by the state government.
Speaking while declaring open the Kwara State Police Security Summit in Ilorin on Wednesday, AbdulRazaq dismissed the claim as baseless.
“Under no circumstances has the Kwara State Government harboured or provided safe haven to bandits, contrary to claims being peddled in the widely circulated video,” AbdulRazaq said.
The governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser and Counsellor, Alhaji Sa’adudeen Salahu, AbdulRazaq said security remained a top priority for his administration, stressing that the government had continued to support security agencies in the fight against crime and criminality.
“This administration has provided a conducive atmosphere to ensure peaceful coexistence in the state,” he said.
According to him, the state government has taken proactive measures to address the root causes of insecurity, including youth unemployment.
“We are committed to supporting security agencies in their fight against crimes and criminality in Kwara State. Part of this commitment is the provision of employment opportunities to about 10,000 youths to reduce idleness and, by extension, crime in the society,” he added.
