Linda Yaccarino has formally stepped down as CEO of X (previously Twitter) after two years, with her resignation announced on social media on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
Her departure comes after a number of problems, including concerns about the platform’s AI chatbot, Grok, which recently generated antisemitic content.
It also comes after a strategic shift in March, when ownership of X was transferred to Musk’s AI business, xAI, prompting concerns about Yaccarino’s involvement.

Yaccarino, a former NBCUniversal advertising executive who was appointed CEO of X shortly after Musk acquired the platform, praised the tech tycoon for the opportunity in a post announcing her departure.
“When [Musk] and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company. I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App,” Yaccarino said.
While she was at the helm, she was entrusted with restoring advertiser confidence and turning X into Musk’s “Everything App.” The debut of Community Notes and the impending X Money financial instrument were among the projects she handled.
