Northern Forum eyes Jonathan, dismisses Obi’s one-term promise as desperate

Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the Arewa Consultative Forum has said former President Goodluck Jonathan’s candidacy appears more attractive.

Prof Tukur Muhammad-Baba, Publicity Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum, who made the remark in an interview on Arise TV on Thursday, dismissed the one-term promise by the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi.

He, however, said the former president has a lot to do in order to sell himself to Nigerians, especially eligible voters.

Tukur described the one-term promise as an act of desperation by Peter Obi.

He said, “The one-term issue is simply political talk, a clear act of desperation. On the surface, Goodluck Jonathan appears attractive.

“Over time, and especially since 2015, Jonathan has accumulated a lot of positives. He gave up when he thought he lost the election, and he has been living a quiet life.

“He has also gained several international recognitions. Developments since 2015 seem to favour him.

“However, it’s still a long way till 2027, and he will need to do a lot to sell himself.”

Although he has yet to speak on the next election, reports have emerged indicating Jonathan’s readiness to contest the 2027 presidential election.
