Ogun state government says Anthony Joshua is now stable and conscious after sustaining injuries from a car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Joshua was involved in a motor crash that claimed two lives on Monday.
The accident happened around 12 noon when the Lexus jeep Joshua was in crashed into a stationary truck near the Sinoma area on the Sagamu axis of the road.
Joshua survived the incident with minor injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
In a joint statement with the Lagos state government, Kayode Akinmade, media aide to Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, revealed that the former heavyweight boxing champion and another passenger from the wrecked jeep were taken to a specialised medical facility in Lagos after the accident.
He added that Joshua is conscious and “has been in communication with his family”.
Akinmade said “comprehensive clinical assessments” confirmed that the boxer does not require emergency medical intervention at present.
He, however, added that a medical team has been assembled and will continue to monitor them closely.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said Joshua’s jeep’s excessive speed and wrongful overtaking caused the crash
