Senator Ned Nwoko says group exploiting marriage with Regina Daniels to tarnish reputation

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has alleged that a coordinated group is exploiting his marital issues with Nollywood actress Regina Daniels to tarnish his reputation.

In a statement released on Monday by his Communication and Technical Action Team in Abuja, Nwoko accused what he called a “syndicate of pull-down-Ned” of using his wife’s personal challenges as part of a broader campaign to portray him negatively before the international community.

Addressing claims of land grabbing in his hometown, Nwoko dismissed the allegations as “false and unfortunate,” explaining that the land was legally allocated to him for the establishment of the University of Sports, which he said benefits the local community.

“Anyone who seeks progress in our society is often attacked by their own people,” he lamented, attributing the criticism to a culture of envy and sabotage.

Nwoko further accused certain individuals of exploiting “a young woman who is unwell and has admitted to drug use” for political and personal purposes, insisting that the campaign against him is based on lies and defamatory statements. “If she had any credible allegations, she would have made them by now,” he said, warning that those spreading false claims will eventually face justice.

He also addressed Daniels’ medical history, noting her past struggles with substance use and bipolar medication, which he said are matters of public record, corroborated by her own statements and former schoolmates.

Clarifying the controversy over their marriage, Nwoko confirmed that Daniels, born on October 10, 2000, was 19 years old at the time of their union, not 17 as widely speculated, and emphasized that their marriage was conducted openly with her family’s consent.

“Our customs do not prohibit polygamy. I married Regina properly, gave her a name, and treated her with respect and dignity,” he said.

Describing the attacks as part of a long-running political witch-hunt, Nwoko claimed his marriage has been used as a tool for blackmail. “Regina has become a weak spot through which my political and personal enemies are attacking me,” he added, asserting that the smear campaign is intended to undermine his image and development projects as a sitting senator.
