The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has credited President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda with making cancer treatment accessible within Nigeria, eliminating the necessity for patients to seek such care abroad.
Idris made this assertion during a courtesy visit to Enugu State Governor, Mr. Peter Mbah, on Thursday. The minister noted that the entire federal information apparatus was in Enugu to document and highlight the achievements of both the Federal and State Governments.
According to Idris, Tinubu’s first year in office has recorded such significant progress that it could be mistaken for the momentum of a second term. He commended Governor Mbah for continuing and expanding on the policies of his predecessor, describing Enugu as “the heart of the South-East.”
Highlighting advancements in the health sector, the minister revealed that Nigeria now boasts six fully equipped cancer treatment centres, one in each geopolitical zone, featuring state-of-the-art machines comparable to those overseas, with trained specialists on hand.
“Anyone who chooses to travel abroad for cancer treatment does so by choice, not necessity,” he stressed. “We must give credit to President Tinubu for assembling the right team to revamp the health sector.”
Idris also pointed to improved national security, attributing the gains to enhanced synergy among security agencies under Tinubu’s leadership.
He acknowledged, however, that challenges remain, adding that the administration is committed to intensifying its efforts to ensure lasting progress across all sectors.
